Beautiful, classy horror. That is The Omen. Not relying on shock, or boos, or gore, this movie does it all with a sheer sense of dread and a dark foreboding atmosphere.
Large, wide, panoramic shots, perfect contrast, good colors, all come together to make this movie gorgeous. Add to that an amazing soundtrack and you have something classic.
Katherine and Roberts child passes away during child birth but as fate would have it, a child was born that same night who's mother had died during birth. The odd priest convinces Robert to adopt the child without his wives knowledge and they take Damien home.
Everything to do with Damien and his followers is done so well. Its all so calm and understated, but you know some pure evil is going on. From the first encounter with his hound and the fanatical suicide of his young nanny, to the sophisticated evil of his new nanny, you feel that these are truly the servants of a horrible force.
Damien hardly says a word, and he never really needs to. His expressions and just the empty dark look on his face speaks far more about him that anything else ever could. His nanny is poised and perfectly beffiting the price of hell. And the hounds show perfectly the primordial and feral nature of evil.
The story behind all the events and the way it all comes together is great. And the ending! Oh the ending! I just gotta say.... fuck Damien....
Great movie, that's why its considered a classic.
