Murder Set Pieces

I am now fully convinced that this movie is trying to go for a B-movie feel. It has to be. Rock music that doesn't fit, tits out of nowhere, really awesome synthesiser tension score, and wooden dialogue that sometimes doesn't even fit the scene. It has to be. It must. If not, it comes off that way so it give MSP a little charm.

What doesn't give it charm is its "I'm so fucking extreme attitude" This movie tries all it can to shock you. The killer is a misogynistic neo-nazi porn photographer who seems to be leaning towards pedophilia. The girlfriend is so dumb as he completely ignores her and only pays attention to her little sister. Nazi imagery everywhere. And seeing as it came out in 2004, it used 9/11 video footage for no reason. Its sole purpose, to shock. Except being the jaded horror fan I am, it just doesn't work. I'm fine with all of it except I feel like its trying to hard to offend people.

The whole movie is about the killers slow decent into blood lust. He starts out fairly in control, but as his desire for Jade (little sister) he has to kill more and more, eventually fully succumbing to it as he begins killing little girls.

Finally after all the build up, Charlotte (big sis) is called to his house, embarrassed and then taken to his torture dungeon. Looking for her sister, Jade steals a spare key to his house and hitch hikes her way to his place. She sneaks around, unknowing of the horrors going on below in the chamber, and finally makes her way to the secret entrance in his closet.

Hearing the door slam, the killer in a rage chases Jade. She runs and hides, finally finding herself in the dungeon hiding in a cabinet. There she finds her sister, rotting, feeding the maggots... she holds her screams. He closes in, she kicks the door open into his face and runs. He grabs her leg and climbs on top of her back, slashing away with his straight razor. She kicks and screams, somehow managing to fight free. She finds a knife and sinks it into his gut. Bolting for the door she grabs the wooden bar and smashes him in the face just as he goes to attack again. She flees, escaping from the horror house. Walking along the road the camera fades and that's the last we see of her. In the end we see the killer on a bus headed for L.A. The cycle starts over as he plays with a small girl on the bus and a nearby woman watches and starts a conversation.

Its an alright little gore flick. Its cheesy and done in almost a music video fashion, but about forty minutes in you don't even remember that. It gets good and stays that way up until the end. On top of that, you get guest appearances by the likes of Fred Vogel (August Underground), Gunnar Hansen (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre), Tony Todd (Candyman), and Edwin Neal (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre).
