The long drive at the beginning of the movie sets a beautiful, quiet mood. Barbra and Johnny bicker and play like real siblings. Of course visiting their fathers grave when this all starts. On their way back to the car, while Johnny teases Barbra about her fear of the dead, a man shambles up and attacks Barb. Johnny jumps in to defend her, but is thrown down head first into a headstone.
Barbra sprints off to the car and locks herself in. The man pounds at the car, furiously pulling at the door, frantically trying to reach Barbra. He picks up a rock and smashes in the window. In a panic, Barbra releases the parking break and the car begins rolling down the hill. It comes to a stop when it hits a tree and she flees as the man gets closer.
She makes her way across a field and to a lone farmhouse. She locks herself in, finds the phone not working and looks around the house. On the second story she find the body of the owner, her flesh on her face devoured. Frightened, she runs down the stairs and out the front door.
Ben pulls up in his truck and takes out a couple zombies. He hurries her back inside, locks the door and checks around. No phone, no gas, he tries to figure out if Barb is the owner of the house, but she doesn't respond. He begins boarding up the house and we see how damaged Barbra is. She fidgets and shakes, she cries and shrieks, she is broken. She begins to just stare off at nothing.
Later on she gets frightened as Harry and Tom come out of the basement and Ben comes down to see what has happened. Ben tries to talk them into staying upstairs, but Harry argues against it.
From here on its full of claustrophobia and tension as the group struggles against the zombies and as Ben and Harry struggle for power. It's a great example of man fighting itself even in the face of apocalypse. I love you NOTLD!
