Zombi 2

This movie should be called Zombie Vs. Shark. That just about sums up the awesomeness of it all. Put on top of that a good story about how the zombie apocalypse starts and of course make sure its traditional voodoo zombies and you have one of my favorite zombie movies.

The movie is very Italian, with people speaking English and Italian but dubbed over in English, including the people that actually speak English. This creates a sorta odd cheesiness to the movie, but it doesn't detract from it.

The setting really does it for me in this movie. Its not dark, its not claustrophobic, but its hopeless. Its lonely, its isolated. Stranded on this tropical island, no hope, no escape. The only people are the natives, no formal education, still sorta tribal.

The natives believe the zombies come from voodoo rituals, but Dr. Menard remains on the island to find some scientific evidence of the cause. Anne's father joins him on the island only to contract the disease. He stays, offering himself as a guinea pig and after he passes, his body is sent home to New York. His sail boat enters the harbor, desolate, abandoned, the coast guard is called in to investigate only to be ambushed by a large zombie that was hiding in the hold.

And officer is killed and sent to the morgue. It reanimates after the morticians have left the room and that's the last we see of it.

Peter (a reporter) hears about the harbor situation and begins to investigate. He comes across Anne on her fathers boat and the two agree to look further into things and make their way to Matool.

They find the help of a couple vacationing to the islands and embark. After searching for a while and not finding the island, Susan wants to go for a dive and take a few pictures. At this point we get the most awesome showdown of all time! ZOMBIE VS. SHARK!

The typical zombie movie things happen on the island, people die, blah blah. This movie also has one of the best "zombie festering" scenes when the group comes across some zombies feeding on the wife of the doctor. And the final stand off in the church is epic.

The ending has Peter and Anne escaping on a boat only to find New York overrun with the undead.

Such a great movie with such a great ending.
