Darkness Falls

A fairy tale of revenge. Matilda Dixon was lynched after the disappearance of two boys back in 1841. The people blamed her because after her husbands death, she grew close to the local children. Matilda would give the children gifts and gold when they lost a tooth.  When a fire left her disfigured, she hid herself away behind a mask, and due to the severe burns causing her sensitivity to light, the darkness. This caused the town to become weary of her, and when the two boys disappeared, blame her. They reacted quickly, arresting her, tearing her mask off, and hanging her. Not long after, the boys returned, completely unharmed. The town had made a mistake and they would pay.

The next year, strange things began happening. Fishing boats sinking, whale and seal bones washing ashore, but none to be found in the water. The two children from before left a suicide note in the lighthouse and their bodies were never recovered. Ten years later, the cemetery was moved and Matilda's body was never found. After that, children began to disappear without a trace. The Tooth Fairy had been born.

Now we have Kyle, a young kid who just happens to have lost his last baby tooth. His friend Caitlin sneaks over to his house at night and tells him the tale of Matilda. He has trouble sleeping that night, being shaken up from the story, and lies in bed awake listening all around. He begins hearing this horrid, guttural gurgle. Hiding beneath the covers and grabbing his flashlight, he collects himself. The sound is close, almost on top of him. He pulls the cover and gazes upon the Tooth Fairy, shrouded in pure blackness, white mask gleaming. He shines the flashlight right at her face, causing her pain, and runs to his mother.

A normal reaction from his mom, "Wah wah wah, monsters in my room!", "There are no monsters, go back to bed." but being a sweet mom, she goes to check just to make him feel better. She wanders his room, checking, and as she goes to assure him things are fine... she spots her. Matilda grabs her head and wrenches it, slashing her face at the same time. Kyle bolts into the bathroom, lights on, and hides in the shower with his flashlight. The shrieking, the gurgling, loud and full of hate. Matilda waits, lurking in the shadows just beyond the door. But Kyle never leaves. The next morning, the police find the body of Kyles mother and arrest him, blaming Kyle for her death claiming he killed her in a state of psychosis from a lack of sleep.

Twelve years later Caitlin's little brother Michael had lost his last tooth, and now has been overcome with a fear of the dark, claiming that "she" is going to kill him, like Kyle once did. Worried, Caitlin tracks down Kyle (who had been in a mental institution for nine years) and asks if he can help. What follows is an awesome, fast paced, thrilling tale of a town overcome by the powers of the Tooth Fairy, the slaughter of many, and our small little groups final triumph over evil.

Its a great movie. I think that an amazing horror icon was made by this title. The Tooth Fairy is horrifying and skin crawling, they way she moves, the noises she makes, how quickly she jumps out of the shadows. You never know when she will strike. The whole movie feels sorta Stephen King, small, quirky fishing town overrun by supernatural forces, but without the gore and the boring.
