Running. Running, trying to reach the shade, trying to get back inside, Santi finds himself in the sunlight. His flesh begins to boil, he cries in agony. He drags his feet, his muscles no longer finding the strength to pull him along. Finally, he bursts into flames. Screaming and screaming! Flailing his limbs about. He wakes up in a sweat.
Santi has a serious disease that makes him extremely sensitive to sunlight. It causes burns in seconds, boils quickly follow. He has to constantly shield himself from it. As a side effect, his canines grow larger than the rest of his teeth. If he doesn't properly avoid the sunlight, he will most likely get cancer and die. Sounds sorta like a vampire huh? Except he has no lust for human blood and no powers. He's just some normal kid with a horrible disease.
His mother has enough and decides finally to move to a secluded village in the mountains that hardly gets any sunlight. In such a small town, everybody knows everybody. Being new is hard. But here, its worse. The townspeople are extremely xenophobic and don't react to well to their new neighbors. Beyond this, there is something lurking in the woods.... stalking Santi.
A young boy named Tito walks along the road. He notices something moving in the forest. He tosses a rock at it and moves in closer. It moves towards him, finally breaking into a chase, Tito flees. The next day at school Tito tells his tale to some kids. Jonas doesn't believe him, claiming its bullshit and that hes just a chicken. Jonas challenges Tito, saying to take him into the woods to find this "thing". Santi walks in on the challenge and says he'll go with. The boys trek through the woods. Jonas, carrying a shotgun, guides them around the traps set in the forest for animals. Tito hears something. Just as he begins to tell everyone, something begins running through the bushes. Tito runs away and Santi follows him. Jonas begins firing at it, trying to kill it. Chasing after Tito, Santi can hear the shots being fired behind him, suddenly, they stop. He hears Jonas let out a blood curdling scream. He turns back, creeping his way through the woods, something is following him. Stalking him like prey. He runs, stumbling his way through the forest. He falls down a hole, landing on the corpse of Jonas. He reaches the road and flags down a car.
Now the town is even more weary of the family, blaming Santi for the death of Jonas, his throat being torn out, his blood lapped up. An investigation begins and Santi is the number one suspect. This only get worse as another body shows up, and whatever is in the woods finds its way into Santis home.
Santi knows what did it, but he has to get proof. He finds a picture of a girl in his room. He finds out that she was a wild child that belonged to a German couple that lived in their home. He inquires, but the towns people only get odd when pressed about it. Somethings not right.
Eventually we see the "thing" in the woods. Its her, the wild child. Her parents murdered when the landlord tried to rape the German woman. Her husband walking in on the landlord standing over her corpse. The landlord had just come from hunting, he raises his gun and blows the husbands head off... right in front of the little girl. She is spared though, the landlord succumbing to his mothers wish to spare her, that she did nothing wrong. But the damage had been done. Her parents the only ones that could keep her under control, she reverts to her wild state.
Not wanting it all to happen a second time, she stalks the woods protecting Santi. Maybe she felt a connection with him. Who knows. But in the end, she has her revenge.
I liked it, there was mystery and a good little twist. Also, I'm glad it didn't turn out to be just another vampire movie.
