August Underground Mordum (magGot Cut)

Pure chaos. Unorganized, unstructured.... a cluster fuck. While the Toetag cut of Mordum is chaotic, the magGot cut takes it to the extreme. Couple that with my hazy memory and you have a disjointed, surreal mish-mash of craziness that can't really be described. It's nuts, but is it effective?

First thing you see is static. Tons of static. When you finally get some visuals going, its quick cuts of short clips, and then almost instantly jumps into the lesbian rape puke fest. Really, this movie just jumps right in. No fooling around, no easing you in. BOOM! Here's some crazy shit, enjoy. Its hard to say, but because of this straight jump into hell, its harder to actually get into the world. You don't live in it as much, you don't experience it. You just watch it. This instant carnage keeps you from joining in and has you just stand back as an observer.

Where the Toetag cut establishes that these people are people, they have their own lives, their own problems (however fucked up they may be outside personal problems), the magGot cut does not. There's nothing to ground you, nothing to make you view them as people (even if they are dirty, horrible people), you see them simply as monsters. Add on the very quick, frantic editing and you hardly stand anywhere in this movie. It's just a movie.

But that's the thing about it. It's Mordum through Maggots eyes. This is how he sees it. This is how he experiences it. Maggot as a person in this twisted little group is scattered. He's not just a little messed up or violent like Fred's character, he's not just pressured into it or just acting out like Cristie, he's actually broken. This is him. He acts out for attention constantly. He hurts himself, he hurts others, he commits the worst acts of the bunch. He just doesn't care about anything, his life, others lives, nothing. He wants to die. He wants to kill. He just doesn't care. That's what makes this version interesting.

But that also reminded me of one thing. I remembered there was a reason why I liked Mordum the least out of the August Underground Trilogy. It's Maggot. I hate him. He's a horrible character. He's gross for not reason, loud, obnoxious, constantly poking and prodding for attention, he can never use a normal voice constantly shrieking whatever he is saying. He's that kid I always wanted to beat the shit out of for being so dumb. Again though... that's the point. I don't think you are supposed to like Maggot. There is a reason why Fred attacks him throughout the movie, why he constantly yells at him. Because he is an annoying dumb ass. No matter what he does, he will always be the weak attention starved second fiddle to Fred. He can fuck guts and decapitated little girls all he wants, that won't change anything. But again, that's just him. That negative attention he gets, he needs it. Any attention is good attention to him. So he acts out.

That's another interesting thing. I never really realized it before, but the only persons name we learn in the movies is Maggots. We don't know Fred's character or Cristie's. So why do we learn Maggots? It's just weird. Something that this version glosses over is the fact that Maggot and Cristie are supposed to be siblings, why keep that out?

"You don't have to worry about growing up anymore."

So the magGot cut really focuses on Maggot. Who would have guessed? Unfortunately I think he was the weakest part of the Trilogy, so ya. This version is a lot harder to follow or get into. So I would say if you were gonna watch Mordum, watch the Toetag version. It's just better. In the end, intestine fucking, lots of rape, scissor severed penis, decapitated necropedophilia, puke, piss, more rape, throat slitting... carnage. It's so much that its sorta to much to take seriously. But I love August Underground, so watch it if you are looking for some really messed up shit. I'll do a real review of Mordum when I get to the Toetag version.

  1. Couldn't agree more! This is a real f**ked up version showcasing an equally f'**ked individual. I haven't seen the Toetag cut at all, and this movie doesn't make ANY sense if you haven't watched the Toetag cut, apart from some pointless gore-fest. I know the audience of AUM won't care much about a plot, and would watch only for the violent content (which, as we all know this movie has in plenty), however, as I've learnt from seeing this, all gore and zero plot, doesn't make interesting watching. I'd suggest folks to watch the Toetag cut first, and then watch the maggot cut, for it to make any sense at all.
